Extensive brownstone restoration.
Before and afters

Bank Eagle, Columbia, PA

The eagle shown was originally carved in the late 19th century. Exposure to environmental pollutants had sugared the composition of the marble. There was really nothing much left. And sound stone was hard to find. The only image to restore from was an early 20th century news article.

This frieze is located at street level on what was once the Eutaw Savings Bank, a nineteenth century brownstone and copper edifice located on the corner of Eutaw and Baltimore Streets. On the Eutaw St. elevation of the building there is a matching frieze that is in almost perfect condition. The Baltimore St. side, however, suffered severe deterioration. In restoring this sculpture I first removed all the deteriorated stone. A restoration mortar, which had already been formulated to match the substrate, was applied and carved following pictures of the intact frieze.
